With the more costly models you are going to get wireless heart rate monitor and more
electronic functions (12 functions on the most expensive model vs. 3 on the lower end model). The
2 lower end models do not have the quick start button, calories burned and the incline percentage.
If these things are vital to you then you will want to make sure not to purchase the lowest end
models. In my opinion, I believe that the very top model is a bit too much
- I don't need 12 electronic functions. Though, I believe some of the extra functions are very
helpful which is why I find the bottom 2 models too easy and therefore not beneficial enough. I
propose somewhere in the middle for the

The Bowflex SelctTech Dumbbells come in 3 versions:
Now, here is my recommendation on which model to purchase. If you are a female and only want to strengthen and tone up, and not put on a lot of muscle and only want to incorporate a little light strength training into your routine then I would suggest selecting option number 3 which is "Tone up & Get Fit" Bowflex SelectTech Dumbbells 220. It's in fact the most simple model but the weights go from 2.5 to 20 lbs which should be enough.
However, if you are considering that you might likely want to add some more muscle mass to give form and tone your body then I would propose version 2 "Build Muscle and Get Toned" Bowflex SelectTech Dumbbells 552 - definitely! The reason being is that if you are going to spend the money you might as well make sure that it has all the weights that you need. It would be unfortunate to purchase "Tone up & Get Fit" Bowflex SelectTech Dumbbells 220 and then realize that you actually have progressed to a 25lb weight for back and chest.
This may appear to be tough to accomplish if you are not currently weight lifting however believe me, the back and chest muscles can pull/push much more weight than your smaller muscle groups like biceps and shoulders and hence it is relatively easy to work up to rowing a 25lb free weight over the span of 2 weeks. And if you want to keep challenging your body and forcing your muscles to increase you will ultimately have to move on to bigger weights.
If you are a male then there are no exceptions, you should start looking at version 2 which is the "Build Muscle and Get Toned" Bowflex SelectTech Dumbbells 552. You should think about getting option 1 "Serious weight training" Bowflex SelectTech Dumbbells 1090 especially if you are currently weight lifting and want to substantially increase your muscle mass.
The main difference between the 3 options is just the amount of weight they each adjust to and how heavy they are. Version 1, "Serious weight training" Bowflex SelectTech Dumbbells 1090 replaces 17 sets of traditional free weights and the weights adjust from 10 to 90lbs. Version 2, "Build Muscle and Get Toned" Bowflex SelectTech Dumbbells 552 replaces 15 sets of traditional free weights and adjusts from 5 to 52.5 lbs. The third version, "Tone up & Get Fit" Bowflex SelectTech Dumbbells 220 replaces 8 sets of traditional free weights and adjusts from 2.5 to 20 lbs - this will be more straightforward for the beginner female weight trainer as they are light and portable.
To change the weight all you have to do is rotate the dial and you can change your resistance - much easier than having a whole rack of different free weights - again, Bowflex is great if you need to conserve space in your house.

The chief thing before purchasing any Bowflex machine is that you are a self motivated individual . I love Bowflex and vouch for it as it has very little downside. The only drawback to you will be if you purchase it and then never use it. That is why you should be positive you are a self motivated individual! Make sure that you are motivated enough to get workouts done out of your home rather than at a gym. A lot of my clients are capable of doing this and they do much better at it then having to waste time physically going to the fitness center. In addition, they do not have to waste time waiting for gym equipment to free up. That being said, there are many other types of people who believe exercising from home will be a good idea but it just doesn't compliment their personality and the equipment sits collecting dust. Don't let this equipment sit collecting dust! Put it to work for you and you will see the great results that my customers achieving!
